Dinner

Let us explain the meaning of the word "braai".

A literal translation into English would be "barbeque" but there's more to it than that. A special hard wood is used, not charcoal. For southern Africans in general and Namibians in particular the braai represents something of a lifestyle. One gathers with friends at some pleasant location and everyone brings something - probably meat, beer, and sandwiches but certainly a good mood and an open heart.
The fire is lit, and the food goes on alongside you troubles. The meat comes off when it`s done, but the troubles stay there until they go up in smoke. Their remains are washed away with a few beers.

We don't braai every night, but when we do we`re sure that the flavour of the smoke will more than compensate for the temporary reduction in atmospheric transparency.

The rest of the time we prepare equally tasty dinners in the Namibian, Italian and Bavarian styles. You will leave the table well fortified for a night`s observing.

In years of good rainfall we are sometimes able to spoil our guest with a rare delicacy, the Kalahari truffle. Like their European namesake they grow underground, but unlike them they are not searched for with pigs. Good eyes and experience are required.
