A number of car-rental companies are represented in the arrivals hall at Windhoek International Airport. You can expect multinationals such as Avis and Budget to meet international standards in terms of mechanical condition and safety of the car.

If you book with Avis, be aware that they have two airport branches - one at Hosea Kutako International Airport and one at Windhoek Eros airport.

Namibia is a big, big country and if you intend to travel independently and drive yourself we recommend you book the car in advance and consult a reputable guidebook. Most of the roads are made of compacted gravel or stonechip, but the climate is kind to them and they are good. A 4x4 is not necessary to visit most of the tourist attractions, and certainly not Tivoli!
